A performance by Gustavo Gomes & Co.

Where does this urge for technology come from? Is it instinct to hand over our responsibility, to objects, codes, prostheses? How far do we go in creating hybrids of bodies and machines?

VOTARY - the devoted follower - is the motif of the next full evening performance by Gustavo Gomes &. Co. in which dance, AR, and film explore parallels between technology and religious devotion. "VOTARY - Vol. I & Vol. II" show the extreme analogies of both poles, and thus the construct "Man - Machine - Deity".

With hybrid reality architect Pavel Cherniak, dramaturge Thomaspeter Goergen and five dancers, those multimedia dance performances design a sacred setting between physical and virtual reality. For this purpose, Gomes translates movements into the hexadecimal system for data transmission - to visualize ecstatic transmissions between humans and technology.

The stage premiere of VOTARY - Vol. I opens the season of Tanzfaktur on Thu, Aug. 25, 2022. VOTARY - Vol. II shows the sequel as a tech-sacral installation in Cologne's Kulturkirche St. Gertrud.
